Aryton Senna - the greatest F1 driver in history
When asked regarding F1 Drivers, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are drivers that come to mind. However, do you know the greatest F1 driver , that is Aryton Senna. He is regarded as the best racing driver in history. Winning 41 times and 3 World Champions, Aryton Senna is worthy of being called a legend. There are a few reasons to why Senna is the greatest of all time in F1 history.
Senna made overtaking look effortless
At Donington Park in 1993 Senna goes from fifth to first in just one lap. He passed Schumacher, Wendlinger, Hill and Prost, taking the lead and eventually winning the race,
Senna was never anything but a racing driver
One of Senna's most famous line is "we are competing to win and if you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver"
He inspired the greats
There are not a lot of racing driver that would admit their world championship title should have gone to someone else. However, in 1994 Michael Schumacher dedicated his to Senna who he believed would have won had he made it to the end of the season.
41 Wins, three world championships.
Senna's first ever win was at home in Brazil and it was one of his most incredible wins. His McLaren lost third and fifth gear so he struggled to keep the car going in sixth but, he crossed the line first. Regardless of the fact he could barely move after the race, he froced himself to hold the trophy up high and proud.
Senna was a master of the rain
Senna was well known for his wet weather skills, Despite crashing out in the race in Canada at 1989, he drives incredible well in the rain. Nonetheless, this was the first wet race he didnt won since 1984.
He produced iconic moments
From being given a lift back to the pits by Nigel Mansell and arguing with Michael Schumacher who taken him out of the race, there are quite a few infamous moments Senna is known for. One of his memorable moment was his first win at the Portuguese Grand Prix in 1985
