Minh Beta’s single VIET NAM OI – DANH BAY COVID (Let’s Fight COVID!) was released last week amid Vietnam’s first week in lockdown due to the global pandemic Covid-19, which has affected almost 1.5 million people worldwide according to Worldometer.
Officially endorsed by the Ministry of Health in Vietnam, the catchy song aimed to lift the spirit of Vietnamese during the fight against the pandemic.
Co-produced by Minh Beta and YellowBlocks, the music video quickly went viral. With positive yet touching lyrics, the video features Minh Beta and guest stars in an interesting superheroes twist.
“Our belief in the impact of this project has enabled us to move mountains to execute the campaign within 2 weeks,” said Minh.
“We chose the superheroes concept to appreciate the unsung heroes who are tirelessly working in the front lines of the pandemic (namely doctors, researchers, soldiers, reporters…), and also call out the heroic virtue in each individual to support the fight.”
In 2014, Minh returned to Vietnam to start a new cinema chain, Beta Cineplex after having graduated from Harvard Business School. His business, alongside with others in the service sector were forced to close when Vietnam began battling with Covid-19.
The move to write a song deeply resonates the affect felt emotionally, as well as economically. And also echoes the resilient spirit of Vietnam: to keep on fighting and never give up.

To the general public, “method acting” means “going to extreme, often absurd or unhealthy lengths in order to evoke some sort of character state,” e.g. actually going without sleep for five nights because your character is supposed to be exhausted. So people who think of it this way consider it the hallmark of childish,“Just pretend you’re tired!” But this is not what method acting actually means. The Method is an rather complex acting system based on some of Stanislavsky’s teachings and writings. He was a Russian actor and director who, at the turn of the 20th Century, revolutionized acting by basing it in psychological realism—as opposed to cartoonish gestures and poses, which was the dominant style before his work. Almost all modern acting training (Method or otherwise) is based on Stanislavsky’s techniques, though, later in life, he wound up rejecting some of the ideas of the Method. By Safwan Kasim

Malaysian athletes are one of the sides that have to face the consequences of Covid-19 as they are not eligible to train and prepare for their upcoming competition. The National Sports Council (MSN) said that they will prepare a guideline for national athletes to return to their training. MSN director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said they would work with other stakeholders to come up with a standard operating procedure (SOP) for athletes. The government has slowed down the movement control order, which was enforced from March, at the same time allowing outdoor sports activities which don’t involve body contact and large gatherings. This involves individual sports and outdoor activities like jogging, cycling, golf and running provided that social distancing is practiced and zero physical contact. by Kamal Nizam
